What is the difference between a fire tube boiler and water tube boiler?
The main difference between a fire tube boiler and water tube boiler is the position of the water and hot flue gas inside the boiler. In a fire tube boiler, hot combustion gases flow through tubes surrounded by water. Heat passes through the tube walls and transfers energy to the surrounding water. In a water tube boiler, water flows inside the tubes while hot gases pass around the outside surfaces.
A fire tube boiler and water tube boiler may serve similar industrial purposes, but their applications are different. Fire tube boilers are commonly selected for low- and medium-capacity steam production. They usually have a compact structure and can be suitable for food processing, textile production, chemical processing, heating, and general manufacturing. The WNS series oil and gas-fired steam boiler from Zozen is a horizontal internal-combustion fire tube boiler. Its capacity range is 1–20 t/h, with a working pressure range of 0.7–2 MPa.
Water tube boilers are often considered for higher capacity, higher pressure, or large industrial steam systems. In a water tube structure, the smaller water tubes can support heat transfer and water circulation under different operating conditions. SZS series oil and gas-fired boilers and ZZ series medium-temperature and medium-pressure steam boilers can be considered for projects requiring larger capacity ranges. The ZZ series has a capacity range of 20–130 t/h and a working pressure range of 2.5–5.4 MPa.
When comparing a fire tube boiler and water tube boiler, buyers should review more than the boiler type. Important factors include fuel properties, steam demand, working pressure, water quality, installation space, emission requirements, operating hours, control system, and maintenance access.
Zozen can provide oil and gas-fired, biomass-fired, coal-fired, circulating fluidized bed, and thermal oil boiler systems. The final recommendation should be based on the factory’s actual process requirements and the complete system configuration rather than only the boiler body.

Behind industrial manufacturing often lies an invisible thermal energy lifeline. Whether boiling syrup, synthesizing chemical materials, or pressing new energy security materials, every physical and chemical change on the production line has strict requirements for the temperature, pressure, and continuity of thermal energy. When green biomass energy enters these vastly different manufacturing workshops, how can various forms of pellets, wood blocks, or straw be converted into the "precise temp...08 Sep 2026 -
