How to ensure the water quality of steam boiler?
- Water treatment outside the boiler
Before entering the boiler, raw water is treated with water treatment equipment to remove impurities such as hardness, salinity, dissolved oxygen, etc., so that the feed water can meet the water quality requirements specified by steam boiler. Common water treatment equipment includes sodium ion exchange water softening equipment, ion exchange desalination equipment, reverse osmosis water purification equipment and thermal oxygen removal equipment.
- Water treatment in the boiler
Chemical water treatment agents are used to enter the boiler along with the boiler feed water, and react with impurities in the water and boiler metal inside the boiler to avoid or slow down the corrosion of impurities in the water to the boiler metal and prevent the boiler from scaling.
Ensuring the water quality of a steam boiler is crucial for the efficient, safe, and long-lasting operation of the system. Poor water quality can lead to scaling, corrosion, reduced efficiency, and even dangerous boiler failures. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to maintain good boiler water quality:
1. Regular Water Testing
Frequency: Test boiler water, feedwater, and condensate at regular intervals (daily or weekly, depending on the system size and requirements).
Parameters to Monitor:
pH: Usually 10.5–12 for boiler water.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): Should be kept within the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Alkalinity: Prevents corrosion and scaling.
Hardness (Calcium/Magnesium): Should be minimal or zero.
Oxygen Content: Oxygen causes corrosion; should be as low as possible.
Silica and Phosphate levels: Controlled as per boiler type.
2. Proper Water Treatment
Pre-Treatment: Use water softeners, demineralizers, or reverse osmosis to remove hardness and impurities from make-up water.
Chemical Treatment:
Oxygen Scavengers: Chemicals (e.g., sodium sulfite, hydrazine) that remove dissolved oxygen.
Alkalinity Builders: Maintain correct pH and prevent acid corrosion.
Phosphate Treatments: Control scale formation.
Anti-foaming Agents: Prevent carryover of water with steam.

Packaging connects production with consumption. A carton, a piece of corrugated board, or a roll of plastic film may look light and simple, but behind each of them is a stable, continuous, and process-matched thermal energy system. As demand continues to grow in food packaging, industrial packaging, e-commerce packaging, and plastic packaging, the packaging industry is placing more specific requirements on boiler equipment: stable steam supply, fuel adaptability, process temperature control, ope...26 May 2026 -
When an industrial boiler arrives on site, what first catches a customer’s attention is often not the specification sheet, but the overall appearance of the equipment in the plant environment. For boiler equipment, exterior design is not only about visual presentation; it also reflects the manufacturer’s approach to product details, on-site management, and brand image. ZOZEN Boiler has upgraded the exterior of its SZL series biomass boiler, presenting a more unified visual design and...19 May 2026 -
