What is the primary air rate of the boiler?

13 Dec 2024

In order to improve the combustion efficiency of the boiler, in a large boiler, the combustion air is not supplied all at once, but is supplied in two times, one is supplied with the fuel that controls the rate of combustion as well as the amount of fuel that can be burned, and the other is directly supplied to the combustion process that that improves combustion efficiency. The primary air rate of the boiler refers to the proportion of the primary air. If the total air volume is 100% and the primary air rate is 70%, the secondary air rate is 30%.

The primary air rate of a boiler refers to the proportion of primary air in the total air supply used for combustion. Here are some key points about the primary air rate:
Definition and Function
Primary Air: This is the air supplied to the boiler along with the fuel. It plays a crucial role in controlling the rate of combustion and the amount of fuel that can be burned. In a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler, primary air is introduced from the bottom of the combustion chamber through an air distribution system, and it helps to fluidize the bed material and carry the fuel particles.
Secondary Air: This is the additional air supplied to the combustion process above or around the primary air. It helps to improve combustion efficiency by ensuring complete combustion of the fuel.
Proportion of Primary Air
The primary air rate is typically expressed as a percentage of the total air supply. For example, if the total air volume is 100% and the primary air rate is 70%, then the secondary air rate would be 30%.
In CFB boilers, the primary air rate is generally between 40% and 60% of the total combustion air. This air is crucial for fluidizing the bed and maintaining the combustion process.
Importance of Primary Air Rate
Combustion Efficiency: The primary air rate directly affects the combustion efficiency of the boiler. An appropriate primary air rate ensures that the fuel is properly fluidized and that combustion is stable and efficient.
Fluidization: In CFB boilers, the primary air is responsible for fluidizing the bed material. If the primary air rate is too low, the bed may not be properly fluidized, leading to poor combustion and potential agglomeration of the bed material.
Temperature Control: The primary air rate also influences the temperature within the combustion chamber. By adjusting the primary air rate, operators can control the bed temperature and ensure that it remains within the desired range for optimal combustion.
Adjustment of Primary Air Rate
The primary air rate can be adjusted based on the boiler load and the type of fuel being burned. For example, at lower loads, the primary air rate may be increased to maintain proper fluidization and combustion.
In some cases, the primary air rate may need to be adjusted to compensate for changes in fuel quality or particle size. This ensures that the boiler operates efficiently and meets emissions standards.
In summary, the primary air rate is a critical parameter in boiler operation, particularly in CFB boilers. It affects combustion efficiency, fluidization, and temperature control, and must be carefully managed to ensure optimal performance.
