Nitrogen oxides, commonly referred to as NOx, are harmful pollutants formed during the combustion process in gas boilers. Their generation is primarily linked to the combustion temperature and the presence of nitrogen:

Thermal NOx: Formed at high temperatures, typically above 1,300°C (2,372°F). At these temperatures, oxygen molecules (O2) in the air dissociate into individual oxygen atoms, which then react with nitrogen (N2) present in the air to form NOx.

Fuel NOx: This type of NOx forms when nitrogen compounds present in the fuel react with oxygen during combustion. It's more common in fuels containing higher nitrogen content.

Prompt NOx: It's formed by the direct reaction of nitrogen and hydrocarbons, especially at lower temperatures.
