ZOZEN Boiler in Mongolia: Industrial Heat Projects Across Food, Beverage and District Heating Sectors

07 Apr 2026

Mongolia's industrial sector has been expanding steadily. Demand for reliable heat supply is growing — particularly in food and beverage manufacturing and urban district heating. Coal is the dominant industrial fuel. The continental climate means heating systems run for long periods each year. At the same time, factories are raising their standards for steam quality, equipment uptime, and emissions compliance. These factors together make boiler selection a more demanding process than it used to be.

Projects Completed Across Multiple Industries

ZOZEN Boiler has delivered several industrial boiler projects in Mongolia. The applications include beverage and alcohol production, juice processing, licensed manufacturing for international brands, and district heating. The projects cover gas-fired, coal-fired, and circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technologies — each selected to match the specific operating conditions of the client.

Food & Beverage: Stable Steam Supply and Fuel Flexibility

Steam is used at nearly every stage of food and beverage production. In beverage and alcohol manufacturing, processes such as mashing, cooking, sterilization, and cleaning all depend on a consistent steam supply. If steam pressure or flow drops at any point, it affects the entire production line. The same applies to juice processing — concentration and pasteurization require steady steam conditions to maintain product safety and batch-to-batch consistency.

Two practical issues come up repeatedly when food and beverage companies in Mongolia select a boiler. First, local fuel supply conditions differ from other markets, so equipment needs to handle more than one fuel type. Second, production loads shift throughout the day and across seasons, which means load regulation performance directly affects energy efficiency.

For a Mongolian producer of beverages, beer, and vodka, ZOZEN Boiler supplied an 8 t/h SHX series CFB steam boiler. CFB combustion works with coal, gangue, biomass, sludge, and mixed fuels. The load regulation range is wide, so output can be adjusted to match production schedules without efficiency loss. Both steam continuity and fuel flexibility meet the day-to-day requirements of food processing operations.

For MCS Coca-Cola — the licensed Coca-Cola bottler in Mongolia — the requirement was different. When the company expanded into new product lines including iced tea and juice, it needed precise steam temperature control and uninterrupted supply. ZOZEN Boiler supplied three WNS series gas-fired steam boilers. The three-pass design allows thorough combustion in the corrugated furnace, which improves thermal efficiency and reduces gas consumption. An integrated control system monitors pressure and water level continuously, keeping operation stable and safe.

At Vitsamo Fruit Juice LLC, the problem was reliability. As production volume grew, the existing coal-fired boilers broke down more frequently. Downtime and repair costs were adding up. ZOZEN Boiler configured a DZL series coal-fired chain grate steam boiler for this site. The horizontal three-pass fire-tube and water-tube structure, combined with a raised furnace arch and Silicon-5 high heat-resistant grate bars, delivers thermal efficiency above 82%. The packaged design reduced civil construction work on site. After installation, production line downtime dropped and steam supply became consistent.

Three projects, three different configurations — each based on the actual fuel conditions and process requirements of the client.

District Heating: Coal Combustion with Emissions Control

District heating is a significant part of Mongolia's industrial heat demand. Coal is widely available and cost-effective locally. However, emissions regulations are tightening. NOx and SO₂ limits are now a real constraint for heating projects, and older coal-fired equipment often cannot meet both efficiency and emissions targets at the same time.

Energo Service Montage LLC, an energy services company operating heating projects in Mongolia, selected a ZOZEN SHX series 7 MW coal-fired CFB hot water boiler. CFB is a low-temperature combustion process. Desulfurization happens directly during combustion, and NOx emissions stay below 100 mg/Nm³. The boiler meets local emissions requirements while maintaining the heating output the project needs. It also runs on coal, gangue, or biomass, which gives the operator flexibility in fuel sourcing.

Throughout the project, the ZOZEN Boiler team supported the client from design through commissioning, coordinating closely to keep the schedule on track despite Mongolia's demanding winter conditions.

A Practical Reference for Industrial Heat Projects in the Region

From gas-fired steam boilers to coal-fired CFB hot water boilers, ZOZEN Boiler's completed projects in Mongolia cover a range of industries and technical configurations. Each solution was developed around the client's specific fuel supply, climate conditions, process requirements, and emissions standards.

For many manufacturers with mature production experience in China, expanding capacity overseas or building a new factory abroad often starts with one key question: can the local infrastructure and energy supply support long-term operation? This is especially important in Africa. In many countries, raw materials such as timber are readily available, while conventional fuels like natural gas and diesel are often more expensive and less stable in supply. For plywood plants, this creates a practica...
