Although biomass-fired boilers are environment-friendly boiler products, there are also some situations that biomass-fired boilers can’t be used. Main reasons as follows:
Fuel restrictions: The fuels that contain synthetic compounds can’t be used as the fuel of a biomass-fired boiler, such as waste wood furniture, waste paper, production and domestic waste.
Firstly, the combustion of biomass fuel is easy to control. The fuel is easy to ignite. Besides, the combustion speed is faster than that of coal.
Secondly, the biomass-fired boiler can be ignited and extinguished at any time while the coal-fired boiler cannot. The biomass-fired boiler can also be ignited automatically.
Thirdly, the biomass-fired boiler can achieve zero emission of sulfur dioxide, which belongs to environment-friendly boilers.
The number of passes that the flue gas travels before exiting the boiler has been a good criterion when comparing boilers. As the flue gas travels through the boiler it cools, and therefore changes volume. Multiple pass boilers increase efficiency because the passes are designed to maximize flue gas velocities as the flue gas cools. Condensing boilers can achieve up to 98% thermal efficiency, compared to 70%-80% with conventional designs (based on the higher heating value of fuels). Typical models offer efficiencies over 90% when the return water temperature is at 110 ºF or less; the lower the return water temperature, the higher the efficiency gain.
Circulating fluidized bed boiler is a specific type of boilers, and compared with the other boilers, it has certain advantages, which are: it has great improvement in combustion technology, which can improve the boiler combustion quality and combustion effect, and in turn, to improve the boiler effect. This is achieved because two return feeders are used in this type of boiler to allow the fuel to form a circulation loop between the furnace and the return feeder.

Package boiler is one of classification of boiler based on erection. Design package boilers in general are the type of Fire Tube Boiler and have made up shell and tubes. This type has high heat transfer both radiation and convection.
A dryback boiler has a rear wall that is lined with refractory, a wetback boiler has a rear wall that is jacketed by water. Because of this fact, wetback boilers typically boast higher efficiency than dryback boilers as the heat from combustion goes directly into heating water instead of refractory. Wetback boilers are also more forgiving with load changes as the reversal chamber of the boiler is totally submerged in water creating an even heat transfer on the intermediate tube sheet to furnace joint.
