How to dry the moisture in the fuel of biomass-fired boilers?

19 May 2023

Drying the moisture in the fuel of a biomass-fired boiler is important to ensure efficient combustion and prevent issues such as fuel bridging, clumping, and poor boiler performance. Here are some methods that can be used to dry the moisture in biomass fuel:

1. Sun drying: This method involves spreading the biomass fuel, such as wood chips or sawdust, in a thin layer in a sunny, well-ventilated area. The sun's heat and wind will help to evaporate the moisture in the fuel.

2. Forced-air drying: This method involves blowing heated air through the biomass fuel to evaporate the moisture. The heated air can be generated using a separate heater, or it can be taken from the combustion air stream of the boiler.

3. Rotary drum drying: This method involves placing the biomass fuel in a rotating drum that is heated from the inside. As the fuel tumbles in the drum, the moisture evaporates and is carried away by the heated air.

4. Belt dryer: This method involves passing the biomass fuel over a conveyor belt that is heated from below. The heated belt dries the fuel as it passes over it.

5. Microwave drying: This method involves using microwave energy to heat and evaporate the moisture in the biomass fuel. This method is often used for small-scale biomass drying applications.

The specific drying method used will depend on the type and moisture content of the biomass fuel, as well as the scale of the biomass-fired boiler. It is important toensure that the biomass fuel is dried to the appropriate moisture content to ensure efficient combustion and prevent issues with the boiler.

  • ZOZEN Boiler in Mongolia: Industrial Heat Projects Across Food, Beverage and District Heating Sectors
Mongolia's industrial sector has been expanding steadily. Demand for reliable heat supply is growing — particularly in food and beverage manufacturing and urban district heating. Coal is the dominant industrial fuel. The continental climate means heating systems run for long periods each year. At the same time, factories are raising their standards for steam quality, equipment uptime, and emissions compliance. These factors together make boiler selection a more demanding process than it us...
