Steam is used to provide colour fastness when dyes are applied to fibres. The tanks in which the fabric is bathed in dye are heated in stages. The steam circulates through the exchangers. Steam is used to wash, dye, bleach and iron fabrics.
High temperature steam is also used to print patterns on fabrics in machines designed for that purpose. The amount of steam that each machine needs (dryers, compactors, mangles, etc.) must be calculated.
