What is the meaning of slugging for the circulating fluidized bed boiler?

The slugging for the circulating fluidized bed boiler means that the bubbles in the feed layer converge and grow. When the diameter of the bubbles grows close to the cross section of the bed, the feed layer is divided into several sections to be particle layers with intervals of bubble sections. The particle layers are pushed by bubbles to move upwards to a certain height and then they burst into a large number of small particles that are thrown out of the bed and carried away by bubbles, while the large particles fall down like rain.

The influence of slugging for the circulating fluidized bed boiler

1) It will be difficult to maintain the normal operation of the circulating fluidized bed boiler. The fluctuation of air pressure will be strong, the draught fan will be impacted and the bottom of the bed will deposit materials which will be easy to cause slagging.

2) It will aggravate the abrasion of the wall surface, and will have a bad effect on the combustion and heat transfer.

3) It will cause the increasement of fly ash, which will increase the heat loss and affect the economic operation.
